Getting Excited: The New Power Rangers Movie Looks Fantastic

If you wake up and take a look at pop culture you might be confused about what decade you're in. Neon is in, Pokemon are back, and suddenly everyone is talking about a Power Rangers movie. As the Robin Williams meme would say:

The 90's are back in a serious way... as in we're actually starting to incorporate those trends of 20 years ago (yes, 20 years ago) in a way that is not just pure irony. Maybe that means that MTV's The Grind will make a comeback?! (A man can dream).

How serious you ask? Well just take a look at this amazing trailer for the New Power Rangers Movie:

We haven't had much luck with reboots recently, or is this a remake? Who cares, the point is that this looks a HECK of a lot better than that beloved show from our youth. Don't believe me? Well watch the original show intro and judge for yourself.

Yes you heard right, Zordon tells Alpha 5 to "recruit a team of teenagers with attitude". The movie version seems to tackle this plot device better, showing that these soon-to-be Rangers are in some sort of school for troubled youth (hence the "attitude").

It also looks like the "bullies" in the new trailer are actually bullies. In the original show the bullies were supposedly Bulk and Skull. However, if you were to go back and re-watch the show you'd realize that The Rangers were bullies. Clearly Bulk and Skull are just awkward un-athletic misfits who probably later in life found a comfortable life and career in IT.

The new trailer also shows that while diversity in the cast is still important, they've learned some lessons... like not making the Black Ranger a black guy and the Yellow Ranger an Asian.

Instead they have the nerdy Blue Ranger played by actor RJ Cyler, known best for his role as Earl in "Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl". And instead of the yellow ranger played by an Asian actor she's played by Becky "G" Gomez. Even Donald Trump would approve of the change.

The hype for the movie is real. Sure it feels a heck-of-a-lot like that movie "Chronicle" from like four years ago, but uh... shhhh just turn off your brain and enjoy the ride.
